Working with Children
Sessions: on average 8 - 12
Hypnotherapy with children can be very quick and effective. Children have great imaginations & are often more open to hypnotherapy than adults because they can be quite suggestible & don't have any preconceptions & sometimes because they haven't seen any stage hypnosis.
Often when a young person is struggling with their mental health, fears & phobias they don't understand what is wrong; either way this can have a serious impact on parents and the family.
First & foremost it is important that children want to attend the appointment & make a change because without their buy in the sessions are unlikely to be effective and could make certain issues worse.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a forward thinking approach that is very safe for children. I don't use regression & I give them tools to move forward enabling them to feel confident, safe & comfortable.
Using a more more fluid approach with children than with adults there is an emphasis on imagination & visualisation which they can practice every day & are therefore very comfortable with.
I don't make assumptions about how each session will go but I base all appointments against the plan I have made & with the clients goal in mind. I work with the children to help them understand how they can make a change & how they wish to feel in the future.
In order to ensure total focus I prefer you meet my younger clients face to face to help avoid distractions unless a parent or guardian can remain present throughout the whole meeting.
Parents can attend each session however they are asked to remain quiet unless specifically asked by their child - it's really hard but essential for the child's progress. If all parties are happy to do so I can work without the parent/guardian in attendance however I will ask for a signed consent form. I am DBS registered.
By using a combination of psychotherapy techniques and trance I can facilitate the process of recovery and by explaining how the brain works, why & how their symptoms are created and what we can do about it my client's are active & engaged in all the sessions. This process allows the client to think more clearly, rationally even at a young age

An explanation of the brain is simplified & adapted to meet the requirements of their age, as is the explanation of hypnosis & the language patterns used.
