Stress, Overwhelm & Burnout
Stress is the body’s response to pressure or demand. In short bursts, it can be helpful. When stress becomes ongoing or feels out of our control, it can start to affect how we think, feel, and cope day to day.
Many people push through stress for a long time before seeking support. Over time, this can lead to feeling overwhelmed, mentally overloaded, or emotionally worn down — often described as burnout.
At The Willows Hypnotherapy, I help people understand how stress builds in the brain and body, and how — with the right support — the nervous system can begin to settle and reset.
Stress, anxiety, and overwhelm – what’s the difference?
Stress is usually linked to external pressures, such as work demands, responsibilities, or difficult life events.
Anxiety is more about internal threat — worry, anticipation, or feeling on edge even when there is no immediate pressure.
Long-term stress can keep the brain on high alert, which can increase anxiety and lead to overwhelm. Many people experience a combination of all three.
Average number of sessions: 8 - 12.

When stress becomes overwhelm or burnout
When stress continues without enough recovery, the nervous system doesn’t get a chance to reset. This can lead to:
-
emotional exhaustion
-
difficulty concentrating or making decisions
-
irritability or low motivation
-
reduced confidence
-
poor sleep or constant tension
Burnout is usually a gradual wearing down, rather than a sudden breakdown.
How hypnotherapy for stress can help
